Green apprenticeships
A green apprenticeship is a role that actively contributes towards the UK's goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Reducing carbon emissions and operating in a more environmentally sustainable way is becoming more and more important to UK businesses. So it's important that there are apprenticeships to support this increasing focus on sustainability.
To highlight how different apprenticeship standards differ in terms of sustainability, Skills England has created three categories for green apprenticeships:
- Dark green - apprenticeships where carbon reduction and environmental sustainability are embedded in the roles and are usually the main focus.
- Mid green - apprenticeships that can contribute to carbon reduction and environmental sustainability, but it's not the main focus of the role.
- Light green - apprenticeships that could include certain tasks linking to carbon reduction and environmental sustainability. Skills England has not yet designated any light green apprenticeships.
