Overview
Countryside Workers are the custodians of our rural outdoor scenery. They conserve the environment that makes the English countryside both distinctive and special.
They carry out specific environmental and conservation tasks, recognising how their work interacts with the productive and recreational use of the countryside, including farming and sporting activities and how these relate to countryside management practices.
Training covers the major areas a Countryside Worker will experience, including:
- Managing habitats and vegetation.
- Constructing or repairing boundaries and access ways.
- Using a range of hand tools and powered tools.
- Identifying a range of British flora and fauna.
- Undertaking surveys which feed in to site management plans.

Apprenticeship Details
Apprenticeship level: Level 2
Typical duration: 12 months
