Building Futures
The 'Building Futures' project aims to increase the number of apprenticeships in South Norfolk and Broadland through providing employers with free enhanced guidance and support to access apprenticeships and skills solutions.
Project support is primarily targeted at sole traders and SMEs with limited experience of apprenticeships either looking to create an opportunity for a new hire or upskill current staff through apprenticeships.
Building Futures is funded by South Norfolk and Broadland District Councils and delivered by Apprenticeships Norfolk.
Eligibility
Eligible employers for Building Futures support will be:
- Looking to create an apprenticeship opportunity or skills solution at a trading address in South Norfolk or Broadland
- Not be subject to the Growth and Skills Levy (i.e. have an annual payroll of less than £3m)
Have not yet started the process of setting up the apprenticeship

Package of support
The Building Futures package of support consists of practical and financial support and an additional micro grant
Practical support
- A skills analysis to identify to identify apprenticeships or skills solutions for your business
- Promotion of vacancies through Apprenticeships Norfolk channels
- Free online training for apprentice managers and mentors
- Access to peer mentoring through Talent Together
Financial support
- Guidance on government funding, grants, and incentives
- Micro grant to help with onboarding costs
- Apprenticeship wage and cost forecasting
- Access to levy funded training through the Levy Support Scheme (where applicable)
The micro grant
A limited number of micro grants are available to help with apprentice onboarding costs for businesses engaging with the Building Futures package of support:
£500 micro grant
- Available to Building Futures employers who are eligible for additional apprenticeship grant(s)/incentive(s) from UK Government.
- I.e. hiring a new apprentice aged between 16-24.
£1000 enhanced micro grant
- Available to Building Futures employers who are not eligible for additional apprenticeship grant(s)/incentive(s) from UK Government.
- I.e. hiring a new apprentice aged 25 or older.
